My street name is Julie Hafner. I am a 5th-grade teacher at Walker Elementary School in Clarendon Hills. I am so fortunate to teach in the school that my children attended. We regularly use technology in 5th: Google Classroom, SeeSaw, Pear Deck, Diagnostic iXL, Slides and Keynote. My favorite app is Kahoot! nothing engages me more than some friendly competition!
I am an Illini undergrad and National Louis MAT student. I am excited to add USF to my resume for a technology endorsement. I love technology (and hate it when it's not working) and was in the computer world right out of college. I stayed home with my kids staring in 1999 and in 2011 started substitute teaching. This was the impetus to go back to school for my teaching certificate and masters in teaching. I am in my fourth year as a full-time teacher. It is exhausting, entertaining and I love it. I love learning right alongside my students.
I am excited to further my technology skills, as well as my students, because the more I know, the more they will know too!
When I am not teaching, you can find me reading on my Kindle/iPad, traveling to warm sunny destinations, baking chocolate chip cookies and then exercising because I ate so many of those chocolate chip cookies. My husband, Clay and I love to scuba dive and binge-watch Dateline and other cliffhanger shows on Netflix. We have three daughters: Grace (Sophmore at Boulder), Chloe a senior and Jane a freshman at HCHS. We also have two dogs (both male to offset the estrogen in the house). We love cheering for all Chicago sports teams!
